The national-level Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone that was formed in 1993 is one of the most important modern manufacturing bases in Anhui Province. It is in the first rank among the middle-west 21 national economic and technological development zones for its comprehensive investment environment. 

It has perfect and efficient management system and services, and has passed ISO9001 quality control system authentication and ISO14001 environmental control system authentication.

The industrial economy of the development zone keeps growing and the five major pillar industries have formed such as auto, household appliance and electronic products, equipment manufacturing, daily chemical products and food processing.

Foreign investment in the zone keeps on the rise. By the end of 2008, it had attracted foreign investors from 26 countries and regions and actually utilized foreign investment of 2.1 billion USD in total.

There are 66 foreign-invested enterprises of considerable scale, including 10 ones among the global top 500, such as Hitachi Excavator, ABB Transformer, Unilever and Coca Cola etc.

On 5 July, 2010, the State Council approved the application of Hefei Export Processing Zone (EPZ) which is located in Xingang Industrial Park, co-constructed by HETDA and Taohua Industrial Park. The total area of EPZ is 1.42 sq km, in the north of Yungu Road and east of Qinglongtan Road.
